At every step, our coaches are intentional in effectively imploring every major element within this process, causing learning to happen in the learner.
What does "lamad" mean?
Our unique approach is grounded in the meaning behind our name. Our logo comes from the 12th letter in the Hebrew alphabet, lamed, which comes from the root word lamad. The word lamad is full of both substance and meaning.
Several words in the Hebrew language are used to convey the idea of what it means "to teach", but the word lamed carries a unique distinctiveness in that it means two things simultaneously: "to teach" and "to learn".
In the Hebrew culture, it's believed that the teacher has not taught until the student has learned. In this way, the goal of teaching is not the communication of facts but the overall transformation of lives. Learning is but the initial response to effective teaching, but transformed lives are the ultimate goal. That's what we believe at The Lamad Group.

About the Founder: Juanita Smith
Juanita Smith is a native of Erie, PA, and received her B.S. in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. Juanita has over 30 years of experience in the non-profit sector working with individuals, families, and communities susceptible to increased risk of failure and crisis. Utilizing her comprehensive understanding of the transitions and processes of change, she assisted individuals and groups in designing plans, achieving opportunities, and sustaining their desired goals. While this is a challenge, Juanita views this as one of her greatest privileges. She believes that with the right knowledge, motivation, and support, people can grow, change, and develop in ways that allow them to maximize their potential, make meaningful contributions, and have a lasting impact.
Through her career, Juanita has developed proficiency in personal, professional, and community development. She has been a part of several innovative and strategic initiatives promoting systemic reform in the practice of social services delivery. Juanita has served in several leadership capacities throughout her career, ranging from middle management to senior leadership. Through those opportunities, she has realized a true passion within herself for leadership and organizational growth.
After a major life transition, Juanita decided to integrate her passions and strengths with her extensive personal and professional experiences, becoming a licensed professional coach and earning her certification through Duquesne University. She is also an Associated Certified Coach (ACC) with the International Coaching Foundation and a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach. Juanita is also a certified trainer/facilitator with CO.STARTERS, an initiative supporting small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs. Currently enrolled as a graduate student, she anticipates graduating in 2023.
In 2018, Juanita Smith was honored by The Mercy Center of Erie as a Woman Making History. Juanita's passion for learning, combined with her gifts as a communicator and teacher, all come together to create engaging and passionate presentations that provide clarity and bring concepts to life. In this way, Juanita makes subject matter both practical and applicable, taking teaching to the next level.
